Q & A / Cwestiwn ac Ateb: Le Navet Bete

Where did the name Le Navet Bete come from?
Le Navet Bete is kind of slang, and roughly translates to The Stupid Turnip. We liked that it had such a serious sound, but meant something really silly. This is reflected in our work, we are serious about being silly.

How did the company come together – were you always interested in this type of comedy?

We met at University in Plymouth in the mid 2000's where we were all studying a Theatre and Performance degree. During our study we explored the work of the clown, and pushed on our discovery from there together.

Once Upon A Time In A Western is described as an interactive journey across the Wild West – what should the audience expect from the show?

Audiences can expect to be very much a part of the show, in every sense of the word. We try and immerse you in the story rather than just telling it, which leads to some really funny moments. You should expect to see all the classic characters from a Western - the wholesome good guy, the corrupt official, the old sheriff, the harsh, unforgiving bandito, the damsel in distress...and then a dutch piano playing deputy (it can't all be authentic!). Most of all, expect it all to be light hearted and extremely fun with interesting theatricality throughout.

You’ve performed at the Centre as part of our circus and cabaret festival, Blysh, a few times before. What do you like about performing in Cardiff?

We LOVE performing in Cardiff. Every time we’ve had the warmest audiences and some fantastic moments. Last year at Blysh we pulled a huge crowd to see our show 'Extravaganza' and they even stuck it out through a short rain shower. We really hope this can continue.

Three words to describe the show…

Rootin' tootin' fun!
